Nowadays health and fitness are all the rage, and people are always looking for different ways they can get fit and healthy. There are so many options of diets out there, but most of them involve cutting out so much food and generally leave you feeling hungry. They are so unsustainable and usually result in you caving and binge eating on unhealthy food.

The best way to lose weight and get healthy in a realistic, maintainable way, is to adapt certain small habits that you can incorporate into your everyday life. This article will tell you about 6 of these habits and why they are so effective at helping you lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

#1 Drink Water Before Eating

Drinking water is an absolute essential for being healthy, and you need to make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. A habit you should also try and get into is to make sure you have a drink before you eat a meal. This helps to fill you up slightly, so you are less likely to eat as much during your meal. It also helps to stimulate the digestive process, so your body is better able to absorb all the nutrients from your food and keep things moving along smoothly

#2 Serve Smaller Portions

Another key healthy eating habit is to serve yourself smaller portions. No matter how much food is sitting on the plate in front of us, we are likely to eat the whole thing even if we start to feel full. It is just the way that our brain is wired. This can lead to us to overeat if we have a plate piled with food and we make ourselves plough through it all. So, instead you should serve yourself a smaller portion. This way you can eat the whole thing and really take note of the point when you start to feel full. This way you can prevent yourself from eating more than you need to, and so you therefore consume less calories.

#3 Use a Smaller Plate

Another good little trick that will help you to achieve the point above (eating smaller portions), is to serve up your food on a smaller plate. Putting a small portion on a big plate will trick your mind into thinking you aren’t eating much food at all, and so you are more likely to think you are hungry after and go up for more food. However, putting that same smaller portion on a smaller plate will make the plate appear fuller, and so will make you feel like you are eating more.

#4 Eat Slowly

It is so important when you eat that you take your time. You need to really chew your food and take a little break before you go straight in for the next mouthful. There is a delay from when you eat food, to it reaching your stomach and your mind registering that you are full. Therefore, if you take your time when you eat then you can notice that point where you are full and stop yourself from eating more. If you eat fast, you are less likely to notice that point, and so will keep eating and consume more calories than you need to.

#5 Create a Meal Plan

Another excellent healthy habit is to create a schedule where you plan out all your meals for every day of the week. You should also take a day aside to do any food prep you can for the different meals you want to cook that week. This will help prevent you from deciding to have that cheeky takeaway, or quick microwave meal when you get home from work and are too tired, or don’t have time, to cook. If you have a set plan for what you are going to eat, and already have some of the meal prepped, then it gives you no excuse to stray from the plan and will make the whole cooking process a lot quicker and easier.

#6 Take Probiotics

Healthy bacteria in your gut is vital to helping break down food properly and keeping your digestive system in order. Probiotics are a great way you can help promote these healthy bacteria.
